Cheese Lover's Day
3 lines were not enough words to express my love for cheese, so here's a haiku series:
Oh, how much to love,
feta, gruyere, and cheddar,
mozzarella too,
some blue cheese crumbles,
may be strong, but not like swiss,
havarti melting,
jam-covered baked brie,
seeded round balls or with nuts,
peeled or with its rind,
muenster, pepper jack,
add as a salad topping,
in pasta, rice, soup,
layered lasagna,
stuffed within ravioli,
fried in a dumpling,
roll into a wheel,
sliced addition hors d'oeuvres tray,
scoops of ricotta,
inside a sandwich,
cut into yummy snack sticks,
smoked gouda, ooh la!

National Korean American Day
Century ago,
remembrance of first hundred,
now mandu dumpling.
This day was made when the first wave of immigrants from Korea who made a pitstop at Hawaii first to work on their plantations. They were trying to escape from the extreme violent politics of their country as well as famine.
One of my favorite Korean dishes is their mandu dumplings. There's a restaurant that would make beef with vegetables and a sweet red bean mandu. They were more than a mouthful as they were the size of softballs.

Marzipan Day

- In Spanish, this candy translates to dulce de cacahuete (peanut candy).
- This particular brand comes from Mexico, but there are others that use the traditional version of marzipan with almonds and honey. De la Rosa refers to it as mazapan.
- Marzipan can be used for baking cupcakes, a section within a layered cake, and other oven treats.
- Gourmet candy in the shape of fruits, animals, or whatever your heart desires when making larger sweets as cake toppers.
- Dusted with sugar, topped with chocolate, or roll them into sectioned lengths, this nutty paste has endless ways of being created.
